Your Child's First Camera
Consider getting a good beginner camera for your child rather than a toy camera. Beginner cameras are quite sturdy and are a better buy than an expensive toy camera for a child. The cameras offer more features than toy cameras and end up being better value for your dollar.
The toyshops have several expensive toy cameras for children. The cameras have large button to make it easy for little fingers to press. They are usually very colourful and often have a cartoon character theme. Other than the visual appeal to a child they have very little else going for them. The picture quality is usually very average and the memory is usually not very large.
If you were to buy a good beginner camera, you would get much more value for your money and your child would have a camera suitable for many years of use. The beginner cameras are quite sturdy. Children do like to take plenty of photos so you will need to help them download the pictures to the computer quite often unless you invest in a larger memory card. It is probably worth the extra couple of dollars because you will get tired of downloading pictures all the time.
An added bonus of getting a real camera for a child as opposed to a toy one is that they can use the camera when they do school projects. They can extra enjoyment from adding the personal touch to their schoolwork. The camera can be used for many years without your child outgrowing it.
